HEY!! My name is Caroline
Whitehead and I am currently 18 years of age (Woo!!)
I live with my parents and my little brother, and my two cats, Tigger and Sparkell – my babies since I was 9! I love travelling and I have been to the UK, Japan and America, but I'm planning on studying in the UK in the future, while seeing the beautiful sights Europe has to offer. The biggest culture shock would definitely have been Japan, it is undeniably beautiful though.

I graduated high school in 2010,
from Grace Lutheran College (Yeah, you probably haven’t heard of it, it’s near
Redcliffe) and then went to Griffith for a year. There I studied business before I applied to
UQ (YUSS!!) Right now I am doing a dual degree in Journalism and Business –
Majoring in advertising.
Needless to say, I have been anticipating
the start of this course for over a year.
The question is; has my first Journalism lecture lived up to my
expectations?
After a full day at work and a
rushed ferry ride to the beautiful University of Queensland, and I have arrived
in the Schonell Theatre. I can’t believe
I have never checked this place out before, even with the multitude of open
days, library visits and hang-outs with friends in the Pizza Cafe, I have never
so much as glimpsed inside the theatre.
Believe me, I was not
disappointed, I walked in and was immediately taken back to a cinema I visited
whilst in England over the 2010-2011 summer break. The elaborate wings and rich smell simply
ooze greatness (And it should when you think that one of Australia’s leading
lights, Geoffrey Rush used to walk the hallowed halls.. well stage) But all
that aside, the first lecture had the perfect setting but did it have the
perfect content?
After noticing that everyone had
picked up a course profile, I proudly noted that I had already printed one off
at home the night before... good start!
The man, I now know to be our lecturer, Dr Bruce Redman, launched into
all the general housekeeping and, after completing a year of Business at
Griffith, I was not expecting to be particularly enthralled. However, after just a couple of minutes I
found I was really interested. The
content that we were going through, while still the basics of the course, the
outline of the course profile, assessment and what we are expected to complete;
it was a lot more exciting than I expected.
I noticed that we are a lot more involved than any other lecture I have
ever been in, and everyone seems willing to be involved... which is different
again.
As we launched into more detail,
we were told that all good journalists these days use Twitter (Finally the
account I signed up for 2 years ago is going to be put to some use), Facebook
to share news and stories (check got a Facebook too), a blog however? No, I
can’t say that I’ve really ever been all that into blogging, but now is the
perfect opportunity to start. When we
asked what to include in a blog, it was similar to ‘the information covered in
lectures, things that you can report on, things you’re interested in and your
thoughts – basically anything and everything’ Which means in future, this blog
is going to have the weekly lecture topic, a few fun yet educational links and
videos, my interests (fashion, Harry Potter, Apple – not the fruit, leather
shoes, bags and cats) all combined!!
So here goes, my blogging innocence
has come to an end, and my career as a fabulous fashion journalist,
editor-of-Vogue has BEGUN!!
